The temporary restrictions, which were put into effect at noon Monday, extend from the western boundary of unincorporated Jefferson County through the eastern limits of Golden, including Vanover Park.

Kayaks, river boards, whitewater canoes and multi-chambered professionally guided rafts are exempt but are encouraged to take extreme caution due to the safety concerns surrounding swift moving water and floating debris. All authorized users and occupants must use a Type I, Type III or Type V Coast Guard-approved flotation vest and helmet.

Water height and flows are expected to rise as the heavy snowpack continues to melt in the coming days.

The restrictions will be strictly enforced and violators may be issued a summons for a class 2 petty offense, punishable by a fine of up to $100.

RTD readies for crush of fans heading to Coldplay concert at Empower Field https://www.denverpost.com/2025/06/09/rtd-coldplay-concert-extra-service-empower-mile-high/ Mon, 09 Jun 2025 22:01:47 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=7185573 The Regional Transportation District is expecting a crush of fans Tuesday night headed to Empower Field at Mile High for the Coldplay concert, and the agency is providing help for people planning to use transit to get there.

The concert venue’s proximity to multiple bus stops and rail stations “makes public transit a safe and ideal way to access the stadium,” the agency said in a press release Monday.

Concertgoers heading to watch one of the world’s biggest bands are encouraged to use the agency’s Next Ride trip planning tool and type “Coldplay” in the destination field. The trip planner will show all available transit options — along with departure times from the user’s current location — in real time to the concert.

The Auraria West Station will be closed from 3:30 p.m. to midnight because of the crowds. Riders should use the nearby Empower Field station.

Following Coldplay’s concert, Post Malone plays in the home of the Denver Broncos on June 15, followed by Metallica at the end of the month.

Transit riders are asked to plan ahead and prepare for large crowds, including on platforms, trains and buses.

More than 900 DIA flights delayed, canceled as thunderstorms hit Colorado’s Front Range https://www.denverpost.com/2025/06/06/dia-delays-denver-airport-flights-canceled-den/ Fri, 06 Jun 2025 20:24:42 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=7183900 Nearly 1,000 flights were delayed or canceled at Denver International Airport on Friday afternoon as severe thunderstorms brought the threat of large hail, tornadoes and high winds to the Front Range and Eastern Plains.

There were 924 flight delays and 25 canceled flights at DIA as of 7:20 p.m., according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.

Flights are delayed by an average of 86 minutes because of a ground delay for thunderstorms, Federal Aviation Administration official said. The ground delay is expected to last until 11 p.m.

Southwest Airlines reported 309 delayed and 16 canceled flights, followed by SkyWest with 237 delays and United with 240 delays.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

NTSB finds fuel leak and improperly installed parts in the engine of an airliner that caught fire in Denver https://www.denverpost.com/2025/06/05/ntsb-finds-fuel-leak-and-improperly-installed-parts-in-the-engine-of-an-airliner-that-caught-fire/ Thu, 05 Jun 2025 20:28:49 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=7182481&preview=true&preview_id=7182481 By JOSH FUNK

A fuel leak and several improperly installed parts were found inside the engine of an American Airlines plane that caught fire after the plane landed in Denver in March, according to a report released Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board said one part inside the right engine of the Boeing 737-800 was loose and had been installed in the wrong direction and that fuel was leaking from the fitting of another part that was also fastened incorrectly.

The preliminary findings don’t identify the cause of the fire because the NTSB won’t reach that conclusion until after it completes its investigation likely sometime next year.

But former NTSB and FAA investigator Jeff Guzzetti said the problems investigators found in the engine appear to be the source of the fuel that caught fire.

“To me, it looks like improper maintenance in the right engine leading to a fuel leak,” Guzzetti said after reading the NTSB report.

Photos and videos posted online showed billowing smoke and passengers standing on the plane’s wing after it taxied to a gate at Denver International Airport. Twelve people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The plane carried 172 passengers and six crew. The NTSB said gate workers extinguished the fire within a minute even before firefighters arrived and doused lingering hot spots on the plane.

American Airlines said in a statement that “the safety of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we are cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board in its investigation.”

Pictures included in the NTSB report show streaks on the outside of the engine from the leaking fuel, and airport video showed a trail of fluid leaking from under the right engine as the airplane taxied to the gate.

Guzzetti said he believes those streaks were probably made while the plane was flying. After it landed, he said, the fuel likely pooled inside the engine and caught fire.

The American Airlines flight had left Colorado Springs Airport and was bound for Dallas-Fort Worth when it diverted to Denver on March 13 after the crew reported high engine vibrations. The plane’s right engine caught fire after it arrived at the gate.

Passengers started yelling “fire” and “smoke” shortly after the plane pulled up to the gate, and flight attendants saw smoke beginning to fill the cabin, according to the NTSB report.

The flight attendants tried calling the flight crew and knocking on the cockpit door, but got no answer. So the report said the flight attendants initiated the evacuation.

Passengers were able to use the jetway at the front left door and the escape slide at the right rear door as well as the left over-wing doors to evacuate. But the left rear door wouldn’t open, and maintenance personnel discovered afterward that the escape slide had jammed in the door.

The faulty slide was sent to the manufacturer for further investigation.

The country has seen a recent spate of aviation disasters and close calls stoking fears about air travel even though flying remains a very safe mode of transportation.

RTD E and R Lines in Denver back on schedule after lightning strike alerts caused delays https://www.denverpost.com/2025/06/04/lightning-strikes-rtd-delays/ Thu, 05 Jun 2025 00:13:20 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=7181184 The Regional Transportation District’s E and R Lines are back on schedule after lightning strikes in the area caused delays.

Lightning did not strike anything, according to an RTD representative.

However, maintenance is being done at County Line Station, where maintenance staff had to stop working temporarily because of the severe weather.

Trains were still running during the delay, but they needed to manually short-turn the trains at Southmoor and Lincoln stations, which caused the delays.

If lightning causes another delay, the E Line will short turn at Southmoor Station and the R Line will short turn at Nine Mile Station, where customers can transfer onto the H line to get into town, RTD spokesperson M. Marta Sipeki stated in an email.

The E Line runs between Union Station and RidgeGate Parkway Station, while the R Line operates between Lincoln Station and Peoria Station, according to RTD’s website.

FAA ground delay at DIA lifted early, hundreds of flights delayed https://www.denverpost.com/2025/05/29/flight-delays-denver-international-airport-dia/ Thu, 29 May 2025 14:55:15 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=7172453 More than 200 flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed on Thursday after the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay.

At of 8:50 a.m. Thursday, 232 flights had been delayed and one had been canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.

That number went down to 202 delays at 9:45 a.m. after the FAA lifted the ground delay order early, allowing some flights to get back on schedule.

The FAA issued the DIA ground delay at 8 a.m. for “low ceilings,” which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover. The ground delay was originally scheduled through 1 p.m. Thursday.

Flights headed into DIA were being delayed an average of 36 minutes during the hour and a half the ground delay was active, according to FAA officials. Those delays caused other flights headed out of DIA to leave the gate late.

Another DIA ground delay is “probable” after 4 p.m., FAA officials said.

Southwest delayed 74 flights and canceled one, United delayed 57 flights, SkyWest delayed 36 flights, Frontier delayed 10 flights, Delta delayed eight flights and American Airlines delayed six flights.

Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Copa Airlines, Icelandair and Key Lime Air all delayed between one and five flights at DIA on Thursday.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
