Adams County deputies find married couple dead in home after shooting son-in-law

Sheriff’s officials found a married couple dead inside an Adams County home Friday morning after deputies shot and killed the couple’s son-in-law when they say he moved toward them with a knife.

Deputies responded to Lofton Court and Kokai Circle in unincorporated Sherrelwood in response to a 911 call from the home at 5:11 a.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post.

There, they said they found the man armed with a knife. Deputies tried to disarm the man and incapacitate him using a Taser, but ultimately shot him, sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Sherman said in an email.

The man, who will be identified by the Office of the Coroner of Adams and Broomfield Counties, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While sweeping the home, the deputies found the couple. They will also be identified by the coroner’s office, but Sherman wrote that the two were the parents of the man’s wife.

Deputies said the incident was under investigation and the scene was still being processed as of 7:22 a.m.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the circumstances of the shooting. The sheriff’s office said in a news release Friday afternoon that no deputies were injured, and those involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
