UPDATED:

Four people were indicted by a grand jury on charges of stealing and redeeming hundreds of Colorado Lottery scratch tickets worth more than $150,000 from stores across the state, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office said Monday.

Richard McBee, Adam Pacheco, Tawny McCurry and David Goetken were indicted on suspicion of felony theft after prosecutors say they stole lottery tickets across the state between August 2023 and November 2024.

The scheme involved McBee targeting gas stations and convenience stores with only one employee and using an accomplice to lure the clerk away from the counter by purchasing propane tanks, claiming a credit card was stuck in a pump or spilling gas.

McBee would then sneak behind the counter, steal dozens of tickets at a time and redeem them at different stores hours later, sharing the profits with Pacheco, McCurry and Goetken.

Investigators tracked at least 45 thefts to stores in Denver, Aurora, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Westminster, Commerce City, Thornton, Henderson, Broomfield, Boulder, Erie, Longmont, Firestone, Dacono, Berthoud, Johnstown, Colorado Springs, Monument, Golden, Evergreen, Conifer, Cañon City, Idaho Springs, Avon and Glenwood Springs, according to court records.

McBee is charged with four counts of theft while Pacheco, McCurry and Goetken are each charged with one count of theft, all felonies.

Their next court dates were not available Monday.
