It’s a big loss for Valor Christian: The Eagles announced Monday that baseball coach Keith Wahl has taken a position as athletic director at a school in Alabama.

Wahl helped open Valor Christian nine years ago and is coming off last weekend’s Class 4A championship, the Eagles’ first in baseball.

The Wahl family, in a statement, said it wanted to thank everyone at Valor, “the amazing people who labor in love here, and will continue to pray blessings upon such a special place.”

All told, the Wahl-led Eagles won six league titles, made the final four three times and compiled a 127-61 record, including 23-4 in 2016.

It is a job that will attract a lot of interest, athletic director Jamie Heiner knows. “We are very thankful for the years of coaching, teaching and ministry Coach Wahl has given to our students,” Heiner said.

Wahl is headed to Briarwood Christian in Birmingham.

He is a former player at Mitchell in Colorado Springs and was on the Marauders’ 1992 team that lost to Cherry Creek in the 6A finale, which ended on a walk-off home run by the Bruins’ Matt Schnabel.
