A rollover crash involving two tractor-trailers and multiple cars shut down Interstate 70 in both directions near the Eisenhower Tunnel for more than eight hours on Wednesday.

Westbound I-70 was closed at the Eisenhower Tunnel and eastbound I-70 was closed at Mile Point 205, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release.

The highway fully reopened to traffic just before 11:45 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

A tractor-trailer traveling westbound on I-70 collided with another tractor-trailer at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, three miles east of Silverthorne, according to the state patrol’s news release.

The crash caused both vehicles to cross the median, enter the eastbound lanes and roll over, officials said in the release. One of the tractor-trailers struck other cars on the highway.

Paramedics took three people to the hospital, but information on the extent of their injuries and which vehicles they were in at the time of the crash was not available.

The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call investigators at 970-249-4392.
