UPDATED:

Three people were injured Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 25 near Thornton, according to the Northglenn Police Department.

A tractor-trailer and three cars crashed on southbound I-25 during the morning commute, temporarily shutting down the highway, the police department said in a 6:42 a.m. post on social media.

7 injured in southern Colorado police chase ending in head-on crash

Southbound I-25 was closed between exit 221 for 104th Avenue and exit 220 for Thornton Parkway, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

It reopened just before 7 a.m., CDOT officials said.

CDOT cameras in the area of the crash during the closure showed emergency vehicles blocking the road and standstill traffic stretching out behind. Another camera showed the tractor-trailer stopped in the middle of the highway, fuel leaking out and pooling beneath it.

The three other cars involved in the crash with the tractor-trailer were being towed at 6:45 a.m., the cameras showed.

Paramedics took three people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to North Metro Fire Rescue.

Information about what caused the crash was unavailable Wednesday morning.
