UPDATED:

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is back open after plow crews spent weeks battling wind and snow to clear the high-country segment of U.S. 34.

The park announced the reopening Friday on social media after sharing that the roadway would remain closed through Memorial Day because of the weather.

Park visitors must make a reservation to use the road between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. More information about reservations is available at go.nps.gov/romo/timedentry.

Trail Ridge Road is shut down every year during the snow season and historically reopens in late May.

Its crest at 12,183 feet makes it the highest continuous paved road in the country, according to the National Park Service.
