At least three pedestrians were killed Sunday morning in a series of unrelated crashes across Denver, including two hit-and-runs, according to the police department.
Police posted about the first fatal hit-and-run crash involving a driver and a pedestrian near West Colfax Avenue and North Speer Boulevard on social media at 3:49 a.m. Sunday.
Eastbound Colfax was temporarily closed at Speer for the crash cleanup and investigation. The pedestrian was identified May 23 as Jason Rattie, 41, by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
The second hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian on southbound Interstate 25 near 23rd Avenue, according to a 4:24 a.m. post from the Denver Police Department. He was later identified as Christopher Tafoya, 27.
Police said several southbound I-25 lanes were closed at 23rd for the crash cleanup and investigation, but all lanes reopened later Sunday morning.
Denver police posted about the third fatal crash, which happened on westbound Interstate 70 near Federal Boulevard, at 7:46 a.m. Sunday. The victim was later identified as Jonathan Marshburn, 34.
Westbound I-70 reopened to traffic in the area of the crash at 9:45 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
